What to Expect at Our Lutheran Worship Services
Visiting a church for the first time can feel overwhelming, but we want you to feel comfortable and prepared.
Traditional, Liturgical Worship
Our services follow a historic structure with Scripture readings, prayer, hymns, and a Christ-centered sermon.
Focused on God’s Word
Everything in the service points to Jesus Christ and the promises of God found in the Bible.
Participatory Worship
You’ll be invited to join in readings, prayers, and singing throughout the service.
Welcoming Environment
Whether you’ve attended church your whole life or this is your first time, you are welcome.
A Typical Lutheran Worship Service
Each worship service includes:
- Readings from the Bible (Old Testament, Epistle, and Gospel)
- Hymns sung by the congregation
- Confession and absolution (forgiveness of sins)
- A sermon focused on Scripture
- Prayers of the church
- The Lord’s Supper (on scheduled Sundays)
Our goal is to faithfully proclaim Christ and deliver the gifts God gives through His Word and Sacraments.
Holy Communion Every Sunday
At Gethsemane Lutheran Church, we celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday as a central part of our worship.
We believe that in the Lord’s Supper, Jesus gives His true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of faith.
Because Communion expresses a shared confession of faith, we encourage visitors to speak with the pastor if they have questions before participating. We are always glad to talk and help you understand what we believe and practice.
